Winter 2016

It is a time of transformation in cardiac care.
A Message From Our Dyad Leaders

MarylandHaydarWelcome to the inaugural Cardiovascular Service Line e-newsletter, inviting conversation on cardiovascular service excellence in support of the Systemwide service line effort. Across Ascension, we have many outstanding physicians and caregivers focused on heart care. We also have shared opportunity based on an emerging confluence of factors — changing community demographics, emerging treatment options, the shift to care outside the hospital, as well as a population health focus. It is a time of transformation in cardiac care. Ascension physicians and associates are leading this paradigm shift with compassionate, proactive and clinically exceptional care.

To expand collaboration and excellence in cardiac care Systemwide, in October 2015, the Ascension Cardiovascular Services Excellence Council met, led by Dr. Ed Fry. This multidisciplinary group of cardiovascular (CV) specialists and service line professionals — initially formed by cardiologists from Saint Thomas Health in Nashville, Tennessee; St. Vincent in Indianapolis; and Seton Healthcare Family in Austin, Texas; and now composed of dyad leaders from several ministries — will recommend effective practices and programs that can elevate the outcomes of CV care provided within our System. This group will define CV service line excellence and serve as a leadership team and advisory body for programs like the one described in this newsletter.

In this issue, we feature the innovative Advanced Heart Failure Clinic at St. Vincent Heart Center in Indianapolis. We thank this team for sharing the multidisciplinary approach that has made them one of the country’s best heart centers. You will have the opportunity to ask questions of these leaders in a webinar; click to register below in the Cardiovascular Services Webinar section.

We invite you to join us in the conversation and explore effective practices across the service line.

As we embark on this new effort, we thank all of you for your unwavering commitment to the patients and communities we serve. We look forward to hearing your stories.
