Therapies used for treating veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

MarylandHaydarWelcome to the inaugural issue of Behavioral Health Connection, Ascension’s brand new e-newsletter, designed specifically to share effective practices among our healthcare partners.

Behavioral Health joins our three other major service lines: Cardiology, Orthopedics and Oncology. Headed by Carol Hartmann, Director, Behavioral Health and Network Development, Ascension Health is focused on expanding services and education for both traditional and innovative therapies for depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorders (OCD) and other mental health issues.

Ascension Health is dedicated to the healthcare needs of our nation’s veterans. We have several initiatives nationwide, including contractual relationships with HealthNet and TriWest, to ensure access to care for veterans and their families. These are important members of our communities, so we want our ministries best equipped to provide comprehensive care, including behavioral health care. Whether veterans served 50 years ago or in our most recent conflicts, their needs are at the heart of what we do.

For this e-newsletter, we chose to highlight therapies used for treating veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder at AMITA Health Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital in the greater Chicago area. This Ascension ministry offers a unique approach to treatment through the use of exposure response prevention therapy and virtual reality treatment.

Please take special note of the communication opportunities available with the featured clinicians as noted in the e-newsletter. It is important to stay informed of new methods and procedures, and to engage with one another. This will support our efforts to adapt and adopt effective practices and continuously improve patient outcomes.
